Types of external wall structure

For building external wall structures various systems are possible:

  1. timber-based external walls in the form of timber stud/timber frame structures or solid timber structures;
  2. non-frame external walls made of mineral building materials. These can be external wall structures with a composite thermal insulation system or with a curtain wall, though the differences are becoming blurred in the case of innovative systems.
  3. Single-shell masonry or double-shell walls with cavity wall insulation are also options for external walls.
